Pernille Kløvedal Helweg’s works range from drawing, print, photography to painting and installations. In her drawings she works swiftly and intuitively with direct observations of reality, in particular of humans and animals. As an artist Pernille Kløvedal has a humorous eye for life’s oddities, which can be seen not least in her drawings and in the series of photographic works centred on feet.
In her prints the process becomes slower and at the same time an element of the material’s arbitrariness comes into the picture. This particularly applies to the concept of field printing, which Pernille Kløvedal Helweg has worked with in recent years. In her field prints the artist has worked with the impressions left by the tracks of animals as a graphic statement. The completed work is a fixing of the way in which the animal’s weight and gait are distributed, thus a quite different registration than a photograph could produce, just as it is also a track and a pattern, or sign if you will, for interpretation. The work with field printing is at one and the same time a wild poetic dream of doing the impossible and a deeply concrete and very physical process, and it is precisely in this field that Pernille Kløvedal Helweg thrives. With feet solidly on the ground and a soaring imagination.
Characteristic of Pernille Kløvedal Helweg are her fearlessness and courage to explore new ways, throw herself into experiments not knowing where they will take her. Always with the great openness and trust in her fellow human beings that also pervade her works..
