THE WHALE AND THE STONE
The special quality of Pernille Kløvedal Helweg’s images is that they do not pretend to be representations of animals. ”Finn Whale in Pink” is thus not the picture of a whale, but a picture created with a whale. In the encounter of the oily body of the whale with the stone it is not one single pattern but many patterns that are created. It is these patterns or tracks that she subsequently worked up into a characteristic form that establishes a bridge between reality and abstraction. The artist and her motif have become partners in the birth of the artwork.
Peter Michael Hornung, excerpt translated from text for Politiken’s offprint FINHVAL I PINK.
